What can I do to keep my kidneys healthy?
During your next medical visit, you may want to ask your health care provider about your kidney health. Early kidney disease may not have any symptoms, so getting tested may be the only way to know your kidneys are healthy. Your health care provider will help decide how often you should be tested.

Late President's Message
The Peradeniya Kidney Protection Society (affiliated to the Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya) was established in February 2020 as a nonprofit, charitable, voluntary organization by a group of well-wishers who joined together with a goal to help patients with kidney diseases seeking treatment at the Peradeniya Hospital.
Large numbers of patients with kidney disease depend on the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital for their treatment. Peradeniya is the largest center that care for children with kidney disease. It is also the center that performs the largest number of kidney transplants in children having performed nearly 150 kidney transplants since 2004. This center provides care for children from all parts of the country. These patients and their families have to undergo many hardships with regard to transport and accomodation. Treatment of adults with kidney disease has also now commenced at the Peradeniya Hospital. At present hospital does not have a separate kidney unit to look after these patients. In this regard a kidney unit with facilities for dialysis and intensive care is being constructed with the support of the Sri Lanka Army.
The government spends a large sum of money to care for these patients. However, the patients and their families need more additional care and support, which the government cannot be expected to provide. We have identified and recognized this additional need and hence embarked on this endeavour of establishing the Peradeniya Kidney Protection Society.
